Disruptive Pedagogy is a ten week arts-based learning programme with a difference, as it is led by children, who become ‘artists- in-residence’ in their primary school. At its core this is a groundbreaking, collaborative method of practice and advocates and upholds the true value of peer learning. Led by leading arts company 21Common, it is supported by Creative Scotland and the Paul Hamlyn Foundation.

Disruptive Pedagogy is 21Common’s schools programme with a difference, as it is led by children, who become ‘artists- in-residence’ in their primary school. It is an innovative educational initiative designed to create a play-space within formal learning structures. It encourages active, on-your-feet learning through collaboration between young people, teachers, artists and the wider community. This project aims to nurture creativity, critical thinking and holistic development by integrating arts-led learning into the curriculum. This values children’s unique contributions, builds interpersonal skills, raises awareness of social justice and aims to take this learning into the outside world.

Disruptive Pedagogy explores and develops how conversations start with children around their own learning and how this can amplify the authenticity and creative voice of learners as both artists and audience. This work at its core is a collaborative method of practice and advocates and upholds the true value of peer learning.

Culminating in a live performance for parents and the wider school community, Disruptive Pedagogy transforms school spaces into show venues, supported by industry professionals.
